Folding Knife

You will need a good folding knife. I only keep a fixed blade knife in my 48 hour and 72 hour bag. A folding knife is what will be needed most in your day to day routine. Make sure that your folding knife is well build and well oiled. I also sharpen mine about once a month. It is dangerous to cut with a dull knife. A dull knife will make you use more force and thus you will be more likely to slip and or cut yourself.

I use a Kershaw Speedsafe. I can open it easily with one hand. This knife has lasted the test of time so far. The blade also keeps an edge on it for a long time with repeated use. The Speedsafe also has a belt clip build into so I do not need to carry an annoying case for it.

Never ever use any knife to pry open anything. More people break knives prying with them than anything else. I carry a small pry bar in my 72 hour bag. This is always with me in my trunk, so I am never far away from some other tools.
